Competition update - winners

The winners of the 2018 Craft of Comedy UK Comedy Writing Competition 
are as follows:

The winners were chosen from a very strong set of entries, based on originality, character creation and comic dialogue. 

We look forward to meeting them at Craft of Comedy UK in June. 


There are FIVE tickets (or pairs of tickets in the case of bona fide writing teams) for this year’s conference available as prizes for our comedy writing competition.

Craft of Comedy UK is open to anyone to attend, but this competition is aimed at new entrants to the world of comedy writing.

Who can enter?

Any individual or bona fide comedy writing partnership (maximum two writers) aged 18 or over at the time of submission and currently resident in the UK.

Entrants must not be working in broadcast as a full-time comedy writer, or as a full-time freelance broadcast comedy writer at the time of submission.

There is an element of self-policing in these entries. If you can afford or can claim-back from an employer the price of a ticket, you should not be entering.

Those all-important dates:

The opening date for entries is 9 March 2018.

The closing date for submissions is 23:59 1 April 2018.

Finalists will be announced on or before 16 April

Winners will be announced on 1st May 2018.


What to Enter

The first 10 pages of a half hour radio or television sit-com pilot script

- OR -

3 x three-minute comedy sketches (screen, stage or audio)


A statement declaring that all the work submitted is original and is the copyrighted work of the person/s named as entrants to the competition.


How to Enter

Submit all of the required materials listed in the ‘what to enter’ section of the website to:

Please submit with the subject line stating: "Entry: comedy writing competition"

Attach either a word document or a PDF only. No other file formats can be supported.

Please make sure the layout of the content is clear and easily followed.

Unfortunately we cannot accept hard copy entries.

Entries must be submitted by the writer/s of the material.

Agent submissions will not be accepted.

Strictly one submission per entrant can be entered.

Please include a contact phone number with your submission.



A panel of established comedy professionals will be appointed to judge the competition.

Terms and Conditions:

Finalists will be announced on the Craft of Comedy website and social media feeds on 16 April 2018.

Winners will be announced on 1st May 2018 and afterwards on the website.

Entries must be by email only and strictly as described in the ‘how to enter’ section of the competition outline.

Each entrant will receive an email confirmation of receipt.

We regret that we cannot engage in further email communication with entrants.

Copyright belongs to the authors. The Trust makes no claim on copyright.

Employees of Conwy County Borough Council, Giddy Goat Productions, any event sponsor and members of their immediate family are excluded from entry to the competition.

Judges reserve the right to limit, reduce or increase the number of winners as they see fit.

Judges’ decisions are final and indisputable. No correspondence will be entered into.

We reserve the right to change or review the mechanics of the competition at any time.

The organisers accept no responsibility or liability for material submitted where the author’s ownership of that material is subsequently challenged or disputed.
